At GRV Media, we are concerned with the environmental impact of the online media industry, particularly in terms of emissions associated with programmatic advertising. As a leading digital publisher and monetization company, we recognize that our activities may contribute to our carbon footprint through the energy consumption of the data centres we use, ad networks, sellers and resellers, and other technological infrastructure that supports ad delivery.

What Is Our Setup?

GRV Media is a 100% remotely operated business, and has been since our inception in 2002. To context this, we currently have 140 employees and content creators who do not have to commute everyday to a head office that does not need to be maintained.

What Are We Working On?

Our drive towards sustainability means we are committed to a low carbon footprint and striving for net zero emissions. We are taking proactive steps to ensure that our digital advertising practices align with our sustainability goals. Here’s how we’re making a difference:

  1. Optimising Ad Delivery: We are working to enhance the efficiency of our ad delivery systems. By optimising data transmission and minimising unnecessary data processing, we can reduce the overall energy consumption associated with our programmatic advertising activities.

  2. Reviewing Our Supply Chain: We’re reviewing our supplier list and reducing the number of resellers in the chain wherever possible. We are focusing on partners that have direct demand.

  3. Joining Sustainable Partner Programs: These programs allow low emission companies only. This helps lower the carbon footprint of the network and infrastructure we rely on for our digital operations.

  4. Transparency and Reporting: We believe in transparency regarding our environmental impact. We are taking advice from professional consultancies that will help us measure our emissions and maintain the lowest possible footprint.

We are dedicated to leading by example and working with our partners, clients, and industry peers to foster a more sustainable future for the digital media landscape. Together, we can drive positive change and mitigate the environmental impact of our operations.

Background and Further Information

In 2022 the government created the Government Digital Sustainability Alliance (GDSA) with the sole aim to work with industry to reduce carbon and reach net zero in line with the UK’s Greening Government Commitments to support the UNs Sustainable Development Goals. The members contribute to three working groups to address the issues and find solutions. We subscribe to their industry updates as a source of information.
